Viper is a wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Great America. The layout is a mirror image of Cyclone, the classic wooden coaster at Coney Island. The coaster’s trains were flipped backwards during the 2017 season to coincide with the opening of Joker.

Opening Date: April 28th, 1995

Bite-Sized Review: Viper is the best traditional wooden roller coaster at Great America. It might not be as big as American Eagle or as modern as Goliath, but it still offers plenty of great drops and airtime moments. It’s also incredibly smooth, which is something you can’t really say about American Eagle. The thing that really put Goliath in my Top 3 at Great America is when the park turned Viper’s trains backwards during the 2017 season. Backwards airtime is a blessing.
