Welcome Back to Attraction Madness!

Attraction Madness is a tournament made up of 68 competing attractions from theme parks around the world. This is the fourth tournament we’ve held, with previous tournaments taking place in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

The Selection Process

Each year we choose rides a bit differently, and this time there’s tons of changes to the process. Due to holding three prior tournaments, we’re able to look at how different rides performed and what seeds they were given. We can use this information to decide the most interesting seeds and matchups possible.

In prior years we’ve taken into account various awards from different publications and given up tournament spots based on their selections. While we still used things like The Golden Ticket Awards and the USA Today 10 Best to make sure we didn’t leave anything important out, it’s become increasingly clear that these publications usually pick the same rides over and over. Sure, there are some unique choices, but The Golden Ticket Awards has given Phoenix at Knoebels the award for Best Wooden Coaster for the entire time we’ve been doing this tournament, yet it never performs well in the bracket. There’s no doubt it’s a good ride, but putting the same attractions in here over and over is boring. The GTAs have many other awards like this, such as “Best Family Park” which has gone to Dutch Wonderland every year (and thus we’ve given Merlin’s Mayhem a spot every year). There’s just so many other good coasters and attractions that deserve a spot, and while rides like Phoenix and Merlin’s Mayhem could return in the future, there’s no reason they should continue to take up spots.

Our 2025 selection prioritizes iconic, innovative, thrilling and/or highly regarded rides based on their reputation, uniqueness and impact on the theme park industry. While seeds are slightly more randomized this year, higher seeds are overall top-tier attractions while lower seeds are still excellent but slightly less dominant. The four brackets have been named simply for fun (Thrill Bracket, Adventure Bracket, Fantasy Bracket, and Innovation Bracket) though they reflect the four most important traits of different rides that have caught our eye. Each bracket has 16 seeds, with one seed being awarded to a “First Four” playin, akin to March Madness. These are the 16 seed for Adventure and Innovation, and the 11 seed for Thrill and Fantasy. Subjectivity is inevitable, but we’ve tried our hardest to craft our most exciting tournament yet.
