New Attraction Replacing Dragon Challenge Roller Coaster at Universal Studios Orlando in 2019

On September 5th, 2017, the Dragon Challenge roller coaster at Universal’s Islands of Adventure will permanently close to make way for an all new thrill ride opening in 2019.

This news was announced via the Universal Orlando Close Up Blog on July 24th, 2017. The post stated that the new thrill ride will “take you deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where you will encounter some of your favorite characters and creatures.” The ride will be built on the former site of the two Dragon Challenge roller coasters, and will of course be themed to fit in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

We also know that this new attraction will be a roller coaster. According to the Universal Orlando blog post, it will be one of the most “highly themed coaster experiences” the park has ever created. It also seems as if the ride will be geared more towards family audiences, as it will supposedly be “fun for the entire family”.

Not much else is known about the attraction, but the blog does state that more details will be released sometime in the future. Until then, guests are encouraged to get their last rides on Dragon Challenge before it closes on September 5th.
