Six Flags Fiesta Texas is Getting a MASSIVE New Family Coaster in 2027

Six Flags Fiesta Texas is already home to one of the more interesting coaster lineups in the Six Flags chain, and now the park is adding another major ride in 2027.

The park has announced Werewolf Gorge, a new Vekoma family launch coaster that is set to open during Six Flags Fiesta Texas’s 35th anniversary season. Once it opens, the ride will be the longest family launch coaster in the world, stretching 4,120 feet through the park’s quarry setting.

That’s already a pretty big deal on its own, but the rest of the stats are also surprisingly strong for a family coaster. Werewolf Gorge will feature four launches, speeds up to 45 mph and 32 moments of floater airtime. Six Flags is calling that the most floater airtime ever included on a family coaster.

The ride will also include a 40-foot drop, an 85-foot elevation change and a mid-course rollback. So while this is still being marketed as a family coaster, it sounds like it will have a lot more going on than just a simple starter coaster. According to RCDB, Werewolf Gorge will be a custom Vekoma Family Launch Coaster. The ride will use LIM launches, including a rolling launch and a multi-pass launch. The trains will have eight cars, with two riders per row, for a total of 16 riders per train. Riders will be secured with individual hydraulic lap bars. The 39-inch height requirement is also a huge part of the appeal here. That means Werewolf Gorge should be accessible to a lot of younger riders while still giving older kids, teens and adults a real coaster experience. That’s exactly the type of ride more parks need right now.

From the concept art and animated footage, Werewolf Gorge also looks very similar in spirit to Big Bear Mountain at Dollywood. That makes sense, since both rides are Vekoma family launch coasters with long layouts, multiple launches and adventurous themes and storytelling. Big Bear Mountain has become a really popular family coaster, so if Werewolf Gorge can capture that same smooth, fast-paced energy while adding even more track and airtime, this could be a huge win for Fiesta Texas.

The ride’s story also fits the park surprisingly well. Werewolf Gorge will take guests into an abandoned quarry once operated by the fictional Silver Strike Mining Company. As the story goes, the mine became surrounded by rumors of wolf sightings, missing miners and strange howls echoing through the tunnels. Today, guests will tour the supposedly haunted site with Jasper Bunyan, a showman, barbecue enthusiast, cryptid curator and tour guide. Before boarding, riders will pass through exhibits dedicated to strange cryptids and critters before climbing into old, cobbled-together vehicles for a tour of the silver mine. Of course, since this is a roller coaster called Werewolf Gorge, things probably won’t go perfectly well.

That’s honestly one of the most exciting parts of this announcement. Six Flags Fiesta Texas has been one of the better Six Flags parks when it comes to theming and presentation, and Werewolf Gorge seems like it could continue that trend. A long family coaster with launches is already a good addition, but adding a full cryptid/werewolf mining story makes it feel much more memorable.

Werewolf Gorge doesn’t have an exact opening date yet beyond 2027, but it already looks like one of the most interesting new coasters on the way. It gives Six Flags Fiesta Texas another major family thrill ride, adds a record-breaking coaster to the lineup and gives the park something that should appeal to both coaster fans and families.

If you’re a fan of Big Bear Mountain, modern Vekoma family coasters or just weird cryptid-themed attractions, Werewolf Gorge is definitely one to watch.
